There is so much open data available… But where can we find it? What is out there? What can we do with it? And if you were able to find it, how would you use it?
In this workbook, I’d like to take you on a journey. We will look into a few online and open available (yes; for free) databases from which you can uncover the possibilities that space information offers you.

As IMARA mostly is looking into land restoration projects, I’d like to take you first on a tour through some databases that give you a first view…
Yesterday, I had the amazing opportunity to talk about ethical issues around the use of satellite data for policy making. This was focused on the policy making around the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) by the European Commission, aiming to support farmers on their income, as well as market measures and rural development.
Here a link to the talk I gave about the issue:
Ethical issues around the use of remote sensing is a topic that most people don’t even want to think about. …
A lot of satellite information is freely available and can be used for sustainable landscapes.
It seems like satellites are far away and the data coming from them might feel like ‘rocket science’. And don’t get me wrong: rocket science is a big part of creating satellite images. Luckily, we don’t have to get ourselves too much involved in that!
All we have to do is to wonder what we would like to see from above. What would we like to see in our landscape? …
Why every choice you make can save the earth…

Do I agree that plastic is bad? Yes! Of course! It’s ridiculous we are swimming in plastic, to know we are drinking plastic, to know we might even be breathing in plastic particles.
I am not even sure what this means for our health and I am glad I’m not the one having to look into it. Why? Maybe because it’s in my nature (and maybe yours too?) …
